OFFICERS I HAVE SPOKEN TO HAVE STATED THAT THERE IS NO ROOM FOR ANYTHING. NO ROOM FOR INMATES, OFFICERS, PROPERTY, NOTHING.

A COUPLE OF FIREFIGHTERS TOLD ME THAT STEVE WAS EVEN GOING AROUND TO FIRE STATION SAYING THAT THEY MIGHT LOSE THEIR JOBS CAUSE THE SHERIFF WAS REFUSING TO CUT HIS BUDGET, AND THE MONEY WOULD HAVE TO COME OUT OF THEIR BUDGET. HEY STEVE LET ME ASK YOU THIS. IF THE COUNTY HAS SEVERAL DEPARTMENTS AND YOU NEED A SPECIFIC DOLLAR AMOUNT ( 3 MILLION ) TO CUT FROM THE TOTAL BUDGET, WHY WOULD YOU TRY TO CUT IT OUT OF ONE DEPARTMENT INSTEAD OF BREAKING IT DOWN OVER SEVERAL DEPARTMENTS SO THE IMPACT IS HARDLY FELT. The seminal event in the growth of this county was the arrival of NSBKB. Because the submariners and the Marines who guard the base are the creme'de la creme' of the Navy - and have to remain that way to stay in subs - the actual service men and women and the accompanying civil servants have had a major influence on the exceedingly low crime rate in the county. Hell, if the county werer nothing but Naval submariner personnel, a troop of Boyscouts with BB guns could maintain law and order.
Who else has moved here subsequent to the sub base? Mostly older, established, relatively affluent Caucasian Americans - hardly a high crime demographic. We have also had an out-migration of younger Camdenians - a higher crime statisical cohort - in search of jobs which will sustain a family. Thank you, JDA.
While a few indigenous blacks reamin trapped here by poverty and a lack of education, the percentage of the population which is black is very small. Moreover, the percentage of those involved in criminal activity is far, far smaller than in Glynn and Duval counties. This is due to this being a county which has to this day the famous and exclusive Kamden Kounty Kow club (of which BTW is arguably the de facto "Grand Bull") and the long history of the Smith dynasty and other Caucasian sheriffs of "keeping the nigras under control."

So this whole battle stemmed from a Berry vs. Williams issue. Tie up the loose ends, why was Smith supporting Williams and what was Berry's motive to out Williams in the first place?
Its good to know that St. Marys stepped up and did the right thing by an employee who did wrong. Unlike the Sheriff's Dept. who did not take a credit card away from an employee until she abused the trust not once but twice, then put her on admin. leave with pay, then allowed her to return to work in another position but probably making the same salary and driving a county vehicle. Looks like the she only got a slap on the hand by taking her credit card away. Another question to the Sheriff's office is why do office personnel, excluding deputies and investigators, drive county vehicles? And why is it that so many SUV's are in the Sheriff's fleet of vehicles? The citizens of this county may not be paying for the vehicles but they are certainly paying for the gas, insurance and maintenance on these gas guzzlers. Oh well, guess the people who pay your salaries, the taxpayers, don't deserve to know the answer to these things. We are not supposed to question the decisions made by our elected officials, and that includes our County Commissioners who are also wasting our money by not keeping a better handle on the budgets they approve each year. If they were keeping a closer watch on the budgets, no department should be overspending their budget, they should warn them they are going to cut them off before it happens. Instead of doing their job they just raise our taxes each year to compensate for their incompetence.

Just so everyone knows the drug money is not the Sheriff's money. Yes all those vechicles did cost the taxpayers. The drug fund money is returned to the taxpayers of this county. The check is not made out to Bill Smith, It is made out to the Camden County Sheriff's Office, which is owned by the taxpayers of thsi county, not Bill Smith. The only reason the Sheriff has control of this money is because the Commissioner gave him that control, And required he get a second signature on the check.

It doesn't matter to me "who" or "how" all the info has surfaced about the sheriff's misuse of funds. Whether Steve Berry had a hardon for the sheriff, or whether he dislikes Williams the judge.
What has surfaced is: years and years of gross mismanagement of the drug fund money and a sheriff who plays favorites, whether they are friends or inmates. With all the info that has been in the papers (both Georgia and Florida) and on these blog sites, you have to admit it, it doesn't look good for the sheriff. It appears to me after reading and reading, that this mismanagement has been going on for many years. It seems that it has been the norm.
However, after reading the info, the sheriff is infact guilty of the way he handled the drug funds. I have read all the info on your site ..... What you say doesn't explain his use of the drug funds. You have not stated any info that in fact the sheriff is not guilty. You kind of dance around the sides and say what is being published is not true. I don't see it that way............
I think the sheriff should step down from his position. This will save this county from any more scrutiny and the way our neighbors see Camden county. If not, then I'm afraid there will be more and more info published in the papers and on TV until there is court proceedings.

Just so you know, Bryan has NO control over the passwords for the internet, the passwords are handled by another computer person who works for, get this, THE COMMISSIONERS. So, if passwords were given to the inmates to use the internet, they came from the commissioners office, not Bryan.

Well, hell's bell's, let give all of the inmates - especially the trusties - passwords - better yet -Blackberries immediately. Make sure the DA, the GBI, and Gordon Jackson numbers are programmed in.
They don't need passwords, because not all of them have internet access. It was just Dr. Chua as far as I can tell. You can ask Rob Mastroianni, I know 3 different people that have said they seen Chua in his office on the computer.

It is really funny how so many people have it in for our sheriff and law enforcement officers and how you all think they are corrupt. I bet if your whining butts called 911 and needed help you wouldn't complain one bit if it were Sheriff Smith himself that showed up to save you or your family. Funny to me you people get on here and slam the very ones that hold your safety in their hands. And the sad thing is even after you slam them they still uphold their oath and serve and protect the ungrateful.
To serve and protect is their motto, not their oath. The deputy is the one that will show up at my door, and most of them are good people. I think it is funny that you would sit back and allow all this wrong doing. You are no better than Smith. You are probably enjoying the multi million dollar slush fund as well. Crooks hand out together.
People aren't complaining about the gals and guys who patrol Camden County. Rather, they are complaining about the Sheriff HIMSELF and maybe a couple of higher ranking officers.
