To The Attackers

You wonder why I reprinted the Times Union Story about Steve Berry suing his daughter over her college choice. I will tell you why. Its to point out what type of people are attacking the sheriff. Stories always have two sides to it, I believe that the people of Camden County should know who is out there slinging this mud. I could see if they were only attacking the sheriff, but that was not good enough. They had to start personally attacking some of the employees at the sheriff department. First one of the attackers has classified the deputies as "thuggies". They then went after Bob Godley. You explain to me where the innocent until proven guilty fails to register in your brain. Godley was never charged with any crime. Those are even your words. So if he never was charged with anything then how can you hold it against him. He had not attacked you two and then out of the blue you come with these old charges. Then you start running a rumor on topix about Mills, claiming he was letting Female inmates have sex with Male inmates. Were you there. Was you one of the inmates having sex in the showers. If that would have happen do you believe he would have been allowed to keep his job at the sheriff department. Are you that short sighted that you will print anything against the people who protect us. Is the attack from the Internet side really just anger from at least one ex-con who has had a lot more problems then just a DUI. I am not going to go into all he has done. Now there is a Whisper. Please help me with this. First off you sit here and type all this mess on the Internet and then out of the blue a newsletter is going around and you act like your hand is not in this. How stupid do you think the rest of us Camden County citizens are. Why don't you request this, cause I am about to, since you like the open record law. Request your own criminal history and post that on your site. Let the people see what type of people you two are. This might shed a little light on where the hate is coming from. Also I am sure the two good news story( probably above me now) really chapped your holes that someone said something good about the sheriff's department. So as a token of Internet good well I give you this for your chapped holes. Remember clockwise or counter clockwise, it all works the same.

Any GOOD parent would and could at least see Berry's point of view. It is unfortunate that this site had to involve Berry's offspring in a public venue - I bet she feels thrown under the bus. Anyway, Hopefully these wounds have healed for the family , even though you had to point out the slight scar!

Why not let your readers see the actual handbook for police and FOI requests. Then they can judge for themselves the illegality of the sheriff's refusal to honor perfectly lawful request, thereby rendering him even more of a criminal.

Unfortunately, YES!

Right, Gina?

"First one of the attackers has classified the deputies as "thuggies"."

As the "attacker" in question, I am uniquely qualified to debunk this particular bald-faced lie.

First, I coined the moniker "Big Thug Willie" for sheriff W.E. Smith.

I later began referring to anyone,
OUTSIDE of sworn officers of the CCSO, who, even after being presented the overwhelming evidence of BTW's on going, defiant, unlawful, malsfeasance in office, continued to give him their unquestioning, cultishly obeisant allegiance, as a "Thuggie."

With respect to what we are all hoping turns out to be a miniscule percentage of the sworn CCSO officers who are so deeply involved and enmeshed in BTW's actions as to fear, at a mminimum, termination by BTW's successor and, at worst, being co-defendants and to engage in such ass saving attempts as this very blog, I would say that they too are "thugs," but mere acolytes of BTW.

I totally agree with you. There are many good people who want to help this county in the Sheriff's office. I just believe Bill Smith is not one of them.

So Jay...why don't you tell us why it is so important to you have his file.
We can all se that you just want it for the wrong reason. He defended himself, nailed your ass to the wall and made you look stupid and now you want his file? Way too obvious!

I know with the knowlwdge of these men(Rick & Jay), that want the records of officers they should know the proper way to get these officers files. However, there must be an underlined reason for wanting any officers file. Not just for the enjoyment of reading, but to mount a smear battle. I know that if Georgia P.O.S.T. felt these individuals requesting these officers files were in need of them, well they would have had those files by now. I know there have been more officer's loose rank and be fired or disiplined from the St.Marys Police Department, than any other law enforcement agency in the county, however nothing is never inquired about them or thier personel files. Hum, wonder why!!! I look at it as, some are in the club, and some wish they could get in the club. Well some will never be accepted. Sorry!

That was an incredibly stupid statement.

P.O.S.T has no say in the matter. According to Georgia law, BTW has no legal say in the matter. All he can do under the law is to redact the officer's (any officer's) security sensitive info (home address, home phone number, etc.), then comply with the request within 3 working days of receipt of the request.

Clearly, our requests have been in the proper format - they have been acknowledged as such by the CCSO.

They just simply, deliberately and criminally wipe their asses on the laws of the United States and State of Georgia with great regularity and so far - total immunity. But that may be about to change.

I am speaking specifically of Sheriff William E. Smith and Capt. Wesley Walker. I look forward to either or both suing me. No balls!

Perhaps someone would like to find the language which says that one needs to justify why one wants or needs the records requests under the FOI Act.

No one said that you had too. We are all quite curious though.

If he has done nothing wrong, why not release the records and prove Jay wrong. What are they hiding? Is what Jay was saying right? The record could prove that. If he has done nothing what is there to smear?

The law states disciplinary records are to be released. Call the Tribune and asked them. They had to sue to get them and the judge gave them to them because it is the law.

Why do you defend this activity by people who say they work for us.

Seems to me that you know how to get the information if it is so important to you and jay.

Didn't you really mean to say: Why don't I agree with you?

Hey Jay,
Your the idiot, because P.O.S.T. is the agency that regulates your peace officer certification. It does not make a damn, what is disiplinary wise within a department, it's what P.O.S.T. determines should be investigated and an officer disiplined. We live in an "at will" State. You can be fired just because. Policy violations are just crap. Law violations, and ethics violations are investigated by P.O.S.T. and they determine if your fit to be a cop or not. Chiefs and Sheriff's just determine if you have a job. As for the tribune, well they print what sells. Then again if there was something to give you probably would have gotten it, Ya think? Maybe there is no disiplinary records because they are sent to P.O.S.T. Duh!!!

POST listens to the sheriff because he gave them some freebies, look at some past records of vehicles given to POST from camden s.o.. if you go back some years, local (Savannah) training center had a county vehicle donated from our sheriff.
it like the old saying; you scratch my back, i will scratch your back....

Jay is one cranky old man who needs to be pull him out of the Park Place Apartments and placed in a old folks home. Gilman's is still open right?

Roxy the school police watch dog said...

Here is where you are wrong. The open records law state that these reports are sujected to release. It also states that if this agency does not maintain these recoprds that they are suppose to give that information to the person that requested them. If there were no such records they would have said so like they did with my request on the Janet Reno permission.

And lastly, if they were not trying to hide something why use a law, to refuse excess, that does not even pertain to the records in question?

If you, Sir, are a sworn officer and truly that stupid, then we can all only hope - and theists can pray - that you are an atypical officer.

Do you honestly maintain, with a straight face, that there are not personnel folders, complete with periodic performance evaluations and, in some cases, disciplinary records, generated by and held by the CCSo on ALL CCSO sworn officers (and non-sworn employees, for that matter) that are all subject to the Georgia Open Records Act, regardless of the very existnece of P.O.S.T.?

Do you really have that low an estimation of the average intelligence of the public I assume you are sworn to protect and serve?

By the way, what with the "voice stress tests" and so forth, are y'all now required to swear a loyalty oath to Big Thug Willie?
